Make sure the PROPERTY DAMAGE SETTLEMENT CHECK issued to you by an insurance company for damages to your vehicle does not include language any place on the check stating the check was for settlement of all claims, full settlement of all claims, etc. If it does and you sign the check and cash it, you could be settling even your bodily injury claim!

WHAT TO DO AFTER AN AUTOMOBILE WRECK:

•Stay calm. Keeping calm helps you stay in control of the situation.

•Make sure you and your passengers are okay. Move as far off the roadway as possible but stay at the scene of the collision. Warn oncoming traffic by activating your hazard warning lights.

•Call the police. Call 911 or the appropriate emergency number to report the collision and request an ambulance, if necessary.

•Do not admit fault. To protect yourself legally, do not discuss the car collision with anyone other than the police and your insurance company.

•Obtain the insurance information of the other driver involved in the collision. Ask for the name of the insurer and policy number all drivers involved in the car accident.

•Contact your insurance company and report the claim. The sooner your insurance company knows about the collision, the better.

•Write down the name, address, phone number and license numbers of all drivers and witnesses involved.

•Get the medical treatment you need asap.

•Do not talk to the insurance company of the person that caused the collision and your injuries.
